Seeing the proofs of Dispatches from the Land of Alzheimer’s

Title page of Dispatches

A few days ago, the proofs of my new book Dispatches from the Land of Alzheimer’s arrived. The book is a collection of my essays about Alzheimer’s disease written over the last several years. Many of the essays started out as posts on this blog. Three of the essays were previously published and are included in this collection with the permission of the respective publishers. Seeing the proofs for the first time is an exciting landmark.

My previous book, A Tattoo on my Brain: A Neurologist’s Personal Battle against Alzheimer’s Disease, was dedicated to my three children and all the young people of their generation. For this book, I reached back to my parents for my dedication. They both encouraged my development of a curious mind  and the start of my journey to become a scientist and physician.

This week I am busy reading and re-reading Dispatches in search of typos.  So far I have found very few. The next step is final printing with release expected in January in the UK and Europe and March in the US.

Good job Dan! Incidentally, I saw Elizabeth at an event a couple weeks ago. I told her to let you know that you are instrumental for encouraging Craig to finally get hearing aids! So nice not to have to yell and repeat! He says thanks too!

    • Dan says:

Thanks Sue. I’m glad to hear that Craig made the hearing aid plunge. I continue to urge those on the fence to give it a try. It took me a few weeks to get completely used to them, but now the only problem I have is remembering to take them out at night.
