About me

My name is Daniel Gibbs. I am a 71 year old retired neurologist with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease. I attended medical and graduate school at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where I obtained my PhD and MD degrees in 1978 and 1980. Next came an internal medicine internship and research fellowship in neuroendocrinology at the University of California San Diego. I then joined the faculty at UCSD teaching and doing research on the neuroendocrinology and neurochemistry of stress. After four years I decided to complete my clinical training with a neurology residency at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. I fully intended to return to academic neurology when I finished my training, but I fell in love taking care of people with neurological problems, and I spent the next 25 years practicing and teaching general neurology.

I live in Portland, Oregon, with my wife Lois and our dog Jack. Our three adult children all live with their families in Oregon, so, at least pre-Covid, we have been able to see them often.

Jack would like you to know that he doesn’t really wear a mask, but he grudgingly agreed to pose for a few seconds while we took a selfie of the three of us.
